Lydia Messam - Piano and Vocal Tuition

Lydia began studying piano and voice at seven years old. From the age of 9, over the course of a decade she sang as part of the renowned Cantamus Girls’ Choir, becoming a seasoned performer, eventually touring and competing internationally. Alongside these choral experiences, Lydia also performed in musical theatre productions across the UK and obtained an ALCM in speech and drama at the age of 16, laying a rich and varied foundation for her teaching approach.
Building on these early experiences, Lydia recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from the Royal College of Music. She now teaches piano and singing in Croydon at South End Music School, working with students of all ages and abilities. Her teaching spans a wide range of genres—from classical to contemporary musical theatre—and she supports each student in discovering and developing their own unique sound.
Tailoring lessons to each individual’s interests, goals, and pace, Lydia aims to provide a supportive, confidence-building, engaging environment. Whether guiding a beginner through foundational techniques, preparing a student for ABRSM or Trinity exams, or helping a more experienced musician refine their interpretation, her focus is always on nurturing musicality, enjoyment, and personal growth. Lydia believes that by combining solid technical groundwork, expressive exploration, and genuine encouragement, every student can grow into a confident, versatile musician who truly loves making music.
